Teese Timber Bridge Replacement
SectorTransport
ClientLogan City Council
LocationGleneagle, QLD
DurationApril 2021 - August 2021
Contract Value$1.4M

The existing Teese Bridge is a single lane timber structure being 3.5m wide, 9m long and approximately 1.5m above a Cyrus Creek tributary creek bed and is a boundary bridge between Logan City Council and Scenic Rim Regional Council. Both Council’s equally share the overall annual expenses for the bridge. The Logan City Council Planning Scheme identifies Veresdale Scrub School Road as a rural collector with a posted speed of 70km/hr.  The existing bridge has a flood immunity of less than 1% AEP, which is inundated during high rainfall events affecting access to the local school.  Preliminary investigations reveal that the existing structural elements have deteriorated, and the bridge is to be upgraded. An options analysis has concluded that the bridge should be upgraded to a two-lane single span concrete bridge.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

A Single span bridge, comprising 3 octagonal piles at each end of the bridge
50mm thick deck wearing surface
Concrete kerb
Steel traffic barrier
Asphalt tie ins on existing road
Grouted rock protection of the embankments underneath the bridge
The Teese Timber Bridge Replacement is part of Logan City Council’s long-term transport management for the Veresdale and Gleneagle areas. McIlwain was awarded the contract in August 2020 to design and construct the project. The project involved upgrading the current one lane timber bridge to a two-lane concrete bridge, providing a more resilient and reliable bridge to suit flood conditions, in addition to providing a hydraulic and hydrological assessment. The Teese Timber Bridge Replacement Project has provided a better network for all road users & stakeholders.
The Teese family has been involved for generations in dairying, cropping and grazing in the City of Logan and Scenic Rim regions. McIlwain gifted the Teese family a plaque and a piece of the old timber bridge as a keepsake.
