Cunninghams Gap Reconstruction Project is to restore a section of the Cunningham Highway at Cunninghams Gap
that received extensive damage following the bushfires in 2019.
Located withing the Main Range National Park and is part of the Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage Area. The unique challenges presented by the complex topography
require a staged approach to the design and delivery of the works. A key focus on ensuring the range remains open through construction requires careful planning and staging
as the road is used widely by heavy vehicles as a trade route and tourists. The project will be undertaken in two stages:
Stage 1 – Upslope stabilisation
» Installation of rockfall and slope protection systems.
» Construction of soil nail retaining structures.
Stage 2 – Downslope stabilisation and Widening
» Design and construct of western carpark.
» Installation of soil nails in fractured rock.
» Complex geotechnical improvements to existing
downslope retaining structures.
» Complex staging within a narrow corridor.
