Transurban invited McIlwain to tender for the 62-day program of works which comprised drainage and crossover works during week nights; three weekend full eastbound closures for pavement rehabilitation, and an additional weekend eastbound full closure for overlay and guardrail works.

 

PROJECT OVERVIEW

2,700m3 of detailed excavation of median drain
1,200m of concrete vee-drain
6,500 tonne of asphalt
1,300m of guardrail replacement

 

The project was staged in three main areas.

Crossover area – including the provisional temporary crossover works

Full pavement rehabilitation

Area of median earthworks and vee-drain only.

 

Crossover(s) were completed first to facilitate contraflows for the full pavement rehabilitation works. The excavation of the median vee-drain and installation of the subsoil drains was undertaken concurrently to provide drainage to the subgrade prior to the excavation of the full pavement depth.

Pavement rehabilitation works were programmed to be completed over four, weekend shutdowns with traffic contra-flowed onto one lane of the westbound carriageway.
