McIlwain has successfully delivered Phase Two of Transurban Queensland’s Noise Management Program

This $7.1 million project forms part of Transurban Queensland’s commitment to improving noise management solutions at critical locations along the Gateway and Logan Motorways.

The project involved the construction of 3.6km of precast concrete noise barriers across 13 sites located within Eight Mile Plains, Kuraby, Meadowbrook, Tanah Merah and Heathwood.

Construction of the noise walls will benefit residents who live within proximity to the motorways by helping to reduce traffic noise. The noise barriers were painted eucalypts green to blend in with the natural surroundings and improve the visual amenity for landowners and motorists. Traffic management and community engagement were both critical components to the success of the project. Working adjacent to high-speed road networks requires careful planning and robust safety systems and procedures.
Works were successfully achieved through strategic traffic guidance scheme solutions in conjunction with night works to ensure traffic disruptions were kept to a minimum. Throughout construction, McIlwain had continuous interface with Transurban’s Traffic Management Centre and community engagement team to ensure positive outcomes were achieved for all stakeholders. To date, this is the second noise management contract that McIlwain has delivered for Transurban Queensland and we look forward to strengthening our relationship in future partnerships.
