Gold Coast's Beechmont Road Access Reopened With a Single-Lane Side Track

On 28 July 2022, McIlwain's reconstruction team achieved a major milestone at the natural disaster site of Beechmont Road in the Gold Coast hinterland with a temporary side track opening under travel time restrictions.

These works are being undertaken on behalf of the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) as part of the Natural Disaster Program repair works at Beechmont Road, a result of a major landslip that occurred in March 2022, which closed the road to all road users.

In the past four months, we have been carrying out natural disaster repair works to stabilise the major landslip area above and below the road. This has involved installing more than 200 soil nails each around 6–7m long into the area and shotcreting more than 300m3 of concrete above the road. Assistance will be provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Temporary side track travel conditions:
- weekdays, access is closed for all road users between 8.30am – 2.30pm to allow for reconstruction works to rebuild Beechmont Road back to two lanes.
- weekdays, before 8.30am and after 2.30pm, the community will be able to access the temporary single-lane side track.
- weekends, access is open through the temporary single-lane side track with minor delays for works.
